Lewis Furniture donates fridges to SOS village
14 Mar 2016
Lewis Furniture in Francistown has donated 12 fridges worth P57 599.88 to SOS Children’s Village.
Speaking during the donation event on Thursday March 10, SOS director, Mr Thabologo Motsamai, appreciated the help they got from Lewis Furniture saying that the fridges came at a time when they needed them most.
“We had shortages of certain things in our village and asked for help, Lewis Furniture store answered to our call and for that we are thankful” he said.
He added that it was important for the houses to own fridges in today’s challenging weather conditions to keep their food cool and fresh saying that it would help the village mothers to keep leftover food without having to throw them away.
The store’s regional controller, Mr Edson Lungisani, said the donation was part of their corporate social responsibility and through their socio-economic committee, they managed to reach out to communities and non-governmental organisations.
He said though they were a foreign business, they cared about the communities they operated their business in and they used profits to improve the lives of the locals adding that the donation to SOS was not their first and would not be their last.
Francistown deputy mayor, Mr Lechedzani Modenga, commended Lewis for their support. He said SOS had children from all walks of life and support from the nation was much needed, adding that through the support of the communities, some of the children had made it to higher places and were living dignified lives regardless of their past.
Mr Modenga encouraged the mothers to keep on caring and showing their love to the children as they were the future leaders and should not be defined by how they ended up in the village.
He asked them to take good care of the fridges so that those still growing could also use them in future.
SOS Children’s Village has 168 children in 16 houses through the Family Based Care programme and 684 children who are supported through the Family Strengthening Programme outside the village. ENDS
