Borehole donation shot in the arm for MRCB

14 Mar 2016

Dewet Drilling Company in collaboration with Matsieng Flying Mission and Gaborone Rotary Club has donated a borehole to Mochudi Resource Centre for the Blind (MRCB) in their new plot at  Raserura in Mochudi.

Speaking during the official handover of the borehole on Saturday 12, Mr Calie Holl from Dewet of Matsieng Flying Mission said they were happy to give to the community.

He said the fly mission was a group of aviation friends who started the Matsieng Air-show four years ago.

Mr Holl said the profits, that were made from the show went to community projects and needy people.

He said they saw the need to give the borehole to MRCB looking at the good work they did to help educate and train the visually impaired children across the country.

Mr Holl further said the water would go a long way in helping them undertake other projects even in the future.

Mr Bill McLellan from Gaborone Rotary Club said they were a world-wide organisation that helped those in need.

He said their relationship with MRCB dated back to 1972 when they first donated a parkins machine to the centre.

Mr McLellan said they would continue to support them going forward adding that the borehole would benefit the centre more so that the children would learn how to grow plants and care for their garden.

The director of MRCB, Ms Sophie Moalosi, said the resource centre operated as a non-governmental organisation adding that it was one of the projects of the Dutch Reformed Church.

Moreover, she said for the past years, MRCB contributed in promoting education of children with visual challenges through the provision of residential services, rehabilitation and resettlement services.

“At the present moment the centre has enrolled 79 children with visual challenges who come from different parts of the country, 62 of the children attend primary school at Matsieng and they attend  therapy and rehabilitation programmes after school hours. 17 children under the age of six are rehabilitated under early stimulation and pre-school program at the Centre,” said Ms Moalosi.

The facility, she said, was old, adding that it was not suitable and not spacious enough to accommodate all children in need of special education who came from different parts of the country and she pleaded with companies to assist them.

Even though it is a NGO, she said partially they were funded by the government through the department of special education emphasising the importance of additional funding through the private sector because government cannot do it alone.

Ms Moalosi ran short of words to thank Dewet drilling company, Matsieng fly mission and Gaborone Rotary Club for donating the borehole that would be helpful to the center adding that development is a locomotive process where you join hands with others.

She said they will cherish and care for the borehole so that it benefits even those who will come after them. ENDS
