Bank motivates women

Standard Chartered Bank on Saturday invited its potential and existing women customers from various professionals for a special treat at Grand Palm Hotel.
Speaking in an interview at the annual event called: Health is Wealth, the bank’s head of retail client, Ms Pedzani Tafa said the event was geared towards encouraging women to leave healthy lives and to empower them to master their financial investment decisions.“Standard Chartered Bank Botswana is here for good.
This is one of the ways that we want to ensure that, for each one of you personally, you are also here for good. So, this is a session where you are taking care of yourselves, health, body, mind and soul,”
The session, Ms Tafa said, was also meant to help women to be healthy in order to make sound financial decisions, “and that is why our relationship managers are also here to help women make decisions, as they create their wealth by taking some of our investment services which include a whole range of products onshore and offshore.”
Ms Tafa said the bank held the Health is Wealth every year as a wellness event. “We have decided to specifically target women professionals in various fields, potential and existing customers. Last year, it was a yoga session.
This year it’s primarily pilates plus wellness. That is why we speak about looking after the mind, body and soul. So that when women go and make financial decisions they are in the right frame of mind to be able to make financial decisions,” she said.
She said the bank this year invited an expert in financial matters, specifically for women, Money Matters managing director, Ms Edna Dambe to empower women on what they need to look out for when making financial decisions.
“Are those decisions any different for men, than they are for women. It is just basically about looking after yourself and effectively then making the right decisions financially.”
The event, she said, was held during the first quarter of the year, as it was presumed that people made their new year's resolutions at the beginning of the year and also started projects at the beginning of the year.
“We believe that it could be an opportune time that while people are making all those decisions that they include financial planning in there as well so that as they go through the year they don't do things haphazardly. They can follow a proper plan that they have set out to achieve through the year,” she explained.
The event, she said, was not only held in Gaborone, but in other areas where the bank had a presence.
To improve the event further this year, Ms Tafa said different speakers and hosts were added. In 2015, she said they only had a yoga session, but this year they decided to put in the thought of mind aspect of it, to talk about mindful eating for a healthy body. Ends
