Advanced fire fighters graduate

14 Mar 2016

Central District Council's 6th fire graduation class of 33 advanced firefighters trainees from various districts  and town councils on Saturday graduated in a ceremony held in Palapye, the only station that offers such training in the country.

Speaking at the ceremony, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, also Palapye Member of Parliament, Mr Moiseraele Goya commended CDC for “the good job you are doing to train men and women for the protection of life and property, incident stabilization and to render humanitarian services.”

He said firefighting is a science that needs to be carried out efficiently, and to respond rapidly to emergencies, that is why they must be thoroughly trained in all aspects of the sciences, looking at the evolution of new building technologies and changes in building construction materials of today.

Mr Goya said the fact that most of the building materials used in today’s construction are either synthetic or chemical -based, it warrants scientific and technical training and knowledge on how to combat the challenges presented by fires in new and modern constructed buildings.

Mr Goya said   it is incumbent to provide firefighters with modern equipment for them to honor their mandate since they have now been equipped with advanced skills.

They were not just trained in advanced firefighting, but also in hazardous material operations which impart them with knowledge and methodology to enter an incident zone and stabilise a situation so there is a need to provide necessary equipment they deem  necessary to protect communities.

Mr Goya said firefighters should always take precautions of safety as the first priority as all the things they handle are dangerous, and should bear in mind that firefighting is a highly recognised profession worth dignifying, but not just a job.

After the 10 weeks of advanced Firefighting and Hazardous Material  training, they are expected go back to their respective districts and perform their duties with high level of pride and professionalism. Ends
