14 Mar 2016

In the bid to commemorate International Women’s Day, Mahalapye Eloyi Christian Church branch two donated to children living with their inmate parents at Mahalapye Prisons.

The church women’s wing donated goods worth P1 500 to five toddlers who were living with their inmate parents as part of their social responsibility.

During the occasion at Mahalapye Prisons, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Ms Botlogile Tshireletso applauded the women for showing this remarkable gesture.

Ms Tshireletso said Eloyi Christian Church found it fit to celebrate with other women worldwide over the weekend despite the day having been commemorated on March 8 and over the years the church women’s wing included humanitarian activities to celebrate this day.

She said they have also demonstrated sisterly love and care to other women so that they may not despair, adding that the almighty God has shown love to them through the church.

She said the church especially Branch two in Mahalapye was very sympathetic to unprivileged members of the society.

Ms Tshireletso said in 2012 they donated 40 blankets and toiletry to 40 needy people at Xhosa I and Boseja/Flowertown, in 2013 the church again donated a stand pipe to a person living with disability who was also a member of their church and last year they planted trees at Moloko ward.

She noted that “blessed is the hand that gives than the onethat receives.”

The five children aged between two and 18 months received clothes and toiletries to help them during their stay with their inmate mothers at Mahalapye Prisons.

Ms Tshireletso encouraged the beneficiaries to be thankful to the good Samaritans, as they had shown them acceptance and empathy irrespective of their status. She said they should therefore, praise the Lord and pray for more blessings.

She also applauded all those who found it fit to celebrate with these children and their parents by giving them support.

For her part, from Eloyi Christian Church, Ms Sethomo Othusitse said every year they find time to celebrate International Women’s Day by giving to the less privileged hence this year they chose children at Mahalapye Prisons.

She said it was not by their choice to be in prison with their mothers, adding that they also motivated and gave words of encouragement to their mothers because of the situation they found themselves in. Ends
