Over 4 000 report corruption

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Adminstration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele, says the total number of people who reported corruption and economic crimes to the DCEC in the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 is 4 021.

When answering a question in Parliament, Mr Makgalemele, said in Maun, a total of 103 people reported in 2013, 77 in 2014 and 60 in 2015,.

Different modes such as phone, email, social media and in person were used.  He stated that in Francistown 397 reported in 2013, 366 reported in 2014 whereas in 2015 a total number of 304 reported.

He further noted that in Gaborone 971 people reported in 2013, 803 reported in 2014 and 940 people reported in 2015.

Mr Makgalemele said the total of those who preferred to be anonymous was 572 and 2 329 people revealed their identities adding that a total number of 172 were ready to become witnesses.

Mr Makgalemele was answering a question from the Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe West Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse who asked the minister to state the number of people who reported corruption and economic crime to DCEC in the years 2013, 2014 and 2015 and the modes they used. Mr Keorapetse also asked how many preferred to be anonymous, how many revealed their identity and how many were ready to become witnesses. Ends
