MAA grateful for roads funds
10 Mar 2016
Maun Administration Authority (MAA) has been awarded P8 574 595 for maintenance of internal roads in Maun and resealing of Makalamabedi road.
Speaking during a special council meeting, MAA chairman, Mr Gaokgakala Letswe, said the funds came at an opportune time since they would relieve the council, which was running on stringent budget.
Mr Letswee said roads in Maun and surrounding areas were in bad state, he therefore said the funds which were to be allocated for the internal Maun roads from the meagre MAA budget would be used for roads in the Maun periphery.
He pointed out that some roads to places Maun such as Semboyo- Kareng roads were poor yet were important for services to reach people.
The MAA finance committee chairman, Mr Vepaune Moreti said they planned to intensify revenue generation projects.
Mr Moreti said that would be achieved through sensitisation of the public on services offered by the council such as buildings’ plans, which would in turn bring revenue if utislised adequately.
Other income generating activities, he said, were that of advertising signs which he said would boost their income in 2017/18 if intensified.
Meanwhile, Mr Moreti stated that they were starting the 2016/17 financial year with a recurrent budget of P143 727 096.
The monies, he said, was made up of revenue support grant of P139 527 096 and own source of P4 200 000.
Mr Moreti therefore said their proposed budget was just over P2 000 000 since the budget was going to be funded through revenue support grant and MAA’s own sources.
He said the analysis of the 2014/15 budget shown that MAA has spent 96 percent of the funds, with under spending realized in salaries due to high vacancies, petrol and lubricants.
Commenting on the budget, Mababe/ Khwai Councilor Kebareeditse Ntsogotho said MAA should put in place recreational facilities, which he said would help the community to have a place to revel while it would generate income.
Concilor for Makalamabedi Boitameto Olebogile Said he appreciated that his village received a share for resealing the Makalamabedi road, he however said the council should also consider maintenance of the internal roads.
Councillor for Dasana ward in Maun, Councilor Rizerua Kazenambo decried that his ward had bad roads yet it was a critical development area of Maun therefore requested proper roads. Ends
