10 Mar 2016
Tutume Sub-istrict Council will benefit from the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) as the infrastructure development project will be funded.
In an interview, the principal roads engineer, Mr Tshepo Babeele, said Tutume infrastructure development project was designed by Haas Consult Engineers in 2008/2009 but due to global economic meltdown, the project was shelved at design stage.
Currently, he said they were at the negotiation stage with the consultant concerning the design review and the project expected to be implemented within a period of 24 months.
Mr Babeele further said the project comprised of the upgrading of 21.7 kilometres of earth/gravel roads to bituminous standard, with the associated storm water drainage system.
He also said that the project will include construction of three bridges of nine spans across Tutume River, construction of ancillary road works, erection of road side markers and signs, construction of culverts and maintenance of all works during construction and it will be done within the set time frame.
However, Mr Babeele noted that depending on the availability of funds after the approval of the Project Memorandum, the project works may increase or decrease. Ends
