Matshekge stands against pregnancy
10 Mar 2016
Matshekge Senior Secondary School in Bobonong held a pregnancy campaign recently.
Speaking at the campaign, Ms Seabelo Lekopanye, who is a student at Boitekanelo College, said for the past two years, Matshekge lost a lot of students due to teenage pregnancy.
She said love for money was one of the factors that caused pregnancy.
“Getting pregnant whilst still attending school is a sign of irresponsibility and lack of focus,” she said.
Ms Lekopanye said teenage pregnancy was a serious concern in the Bobirwa Sub-district and she urged girls to respect their bodies.
Ms Lekopanye advised students to work hard and have better dreams of what they wanted in life.
She noted that having a mission as well as a vision would enable them to have a brighter future.
For his part, Matshekge School Head Mr Baboloki Bajiti said pregnancy was a sign that students were not focused.
He said for the year 2014 and 2015, pregnancy cases at the school were high, adding that eight students had dropped out of school due to pregnancy,
“Some students more especially the boarding ones have a tendency of sleeping out of the hostels,” he said.
Mr Bajiti said Matshekge students could perform well if all stakeholders could take part in fighting pregnancy. ENDS
