Molao refutes school bad behaviour reports
09 Mar 2016
The Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Fidelis Molao says there is no state of lawlessness at Motsumi Junior Secondary School.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Mr Molao said Form 3 students did not write their examinations under supervision of teachers assisted by armed police.
“It may be that a case, which had been reported to the police, in which two students who had fought the day prior to an examination was misconstrued when the students were returned to school following questioning,” he said. The assistant minister said these cases cannot easily be related to the current school management as both the school head and deputy school head had recently transferred into the school in 2015.
He said all cases of indiscipline by students are dealt with as they occur. “We also use the Guidance and Counselling and Peer Approach to Counselling by Teens to assist our students in their general psycho-social development,” Mr Molao said adding parents remain influential in their children’s development outside school. Boteti East MP Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to appraise parliament on the status of lawlessness at Motsumi Junior Secondary School in Letlhakane for the year 2015.
He asked if it was true that some Form 3 examination papers for the last year were written under supervision of teachers assisted by the armed police and whether the minister can relate this to the current school management or poor parenting at home.
MP Lelatisitswe further asked the minister what has been done to address this anomaly. Ends
