09 Mar 2016
The district commissioner for Kweneng, Dr Temba Mmusi held conference with councilors from Letlhakeng Sub District on Tuesday to brief them about the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Addressing them, Dr Mmusi said the main agenda of the ESP was to among others boost the manufacturing sector, promote citizen empowerment through preference margin, infrastructure development, land servicing across the country, construction maintenance and refurbishment of roads and government facilities.
He said this would then help achieve the common goal of boosting the economy especially in targeted areas such as agricultural production and tourism development.
He also said ESP will also focus on equipping graduates with skills and knowledge that will enable them to penetrate and fit into today’s market requirement with ease as well as developing educational facilities which include teachers’ quarters, classrooms for primary and secondary schools and science laboratories.
For his part, Cllr Bokopane Tumiso of Khudumelapye-Sesung ward complained that they have long advocated for the tarring of the 90 km Letlhakeng-Khutse road, but he said to their surprise government has given priority to less important roads.
He also stressed that there is extreme water shortage in his ward since the Water Utilities Company took over.
The Chairperson of the Letlhakeng Sub-District, Cllr Tlotlo Batlhophi said they need among other things a hospital in Letlhakeng.
He also said the Kweneng West is disadvantaged as it is one of the most poverty struck district in the country adding that the ESP should have focused more on the district. When responding to the comments Dr Mmusi said the ESP is divided into three phases such that if a village is not covered in phase one they might still be catered for in the remainng two ohases. Ends
