Dibotelo challenges employees to leave legacy

09 Mar 2016

The only way public servants can be remembered upon their retirement is through delivery of quality services to the public when they still have the chance, the district commissioner for Hukuntsi Sub- district, Mr Patson Dibotelo has said.

Addressing staff members of the Kgalagadi District Commissioner Office in an award giving ceremony recently, Mr Dibotelo said public servants are charged with diverse assignments some of which entail delivering government programmes to the people as such they are expected to execute their duties impeccably.

“ If you want to be praised for good work, then I implore that you write your names in the hearts of people you are meant to serve. I guarantee that if you do good in the eyes of your customers your name will remain legendary even for years to come,” Mr Dibotelo, advised.

Moreover, Mr Dibotelo reminded the staff that the good name of the office depends wholly in collective work “not internal squabbles and a pull them down attitude that normally impact dysfunctional organisations.”

Another speaker, Ms Neo Tsietso, who is the performance improvement coordinator  at Tsabong Education Centre, conceded that often in the public service there are challenges that impede services such as inadequate transportation and shortage of accommodation. However, according to Ms Tsietso, this challenges should be transformed into opportunities as stumbling blocks are known to build strong personalities.

In addition, Ms Tsietso noted that celebrating excellence is a clear indication that the District Commissioner staff have managed to transform their misfortunes to openings already.
Sadly, Ms Tsietso stated that there are public servants who have the tendency of not taking work seriously around the festive season in the district

“Some of them abuse work time by playing games while others are usually nowhere to be seen during office hours.
I would like to call upon relevant authorities to put an end to this negative demeanor.”

Ms Queen Makobo, who is the principal adminstration officer stressed  that by awarding best performing employees, the district office is indirectly communicating with its staff as a way of improving productivity and flexibility between the top hierarchy and low ranking officers.

She highlighted that poor communication negatively affect the morale of employees.
During the ceremony, a total of 18 awards were granted to the deserving recipients under the categories, long service , special awards, most dedicated and hardworking employee and promising employee awards.

The ceremony was the second in consecutive terms after the maiden ones were staged in the 2015/2016 financial year. Ends
