MoH assists Anne Stinne Centre
09 Mar 2016
In an effort to support Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences’ noble gesture towards supporting Anne Stinne Centre, the Ministry of Health has committed itself to a P1.2 million renewable contract for three years for recurrent and development expenditure, says the acting permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health Mr Benbame Gareegope.
Speaking at the Molepolole Institute of Health Sciences (IHS) best facility award celebrations held at IHS recently, Mr Gareegope said the decision to assist the centre was meant to support the constant effort made by the institution in supporting needs of communities in their area of operation.
He commended IHS for taking part in community projects that was evident through the adoption of Anne Stine Centre, a community based rehabilitation centre for children living with disabilities, where the institution has committed itself to an annual donation of food hampers and other related stuff to children and Christmas parties at the end of every year.
It was also reported that a donation of over P50 000 was also made to Anne Stine Centre to help commence construction of a computer laboratory.
The institution’s award as Mr Gareegope highlighted follows Ministerial Achievement Award introduced in 2011 focused on long service and good conduct, corporate achievement, performance of the year by cadre as well as innovation and outstanding facility in the Ministry of Health in order to attract and retain competent personnel and to cultivate a culture of excellence in the workplace. He said it was through effective working committees that executed the institutions’ strategic plan synchronised by a very effective performance improvement committee that led to the institution’s success.
Another initiative that the ministry was grateful of was the institution’s recent effort to embark on donating donkey cart reflectors to promote road safety to villagers at Mosokotso lands, west of Molepolole.
The institution was further applauded for successfully achieving several activities despite challenges of water shortage that the institution was constantly faced with.
He has however stated that in an effort to try and arrest the situation, the ministry has come up with the idea of drilling a borehole and building additional staff houses to help reduce the existing shortage.
He therefore appealed to the business community in Molepolole and other development partners to come to their rescue as the government alone cannot make it.
Mr Gareegope further assured Kweneng leadership about the ministry’s intention to restore structural damages the institution experienced during the recent hailstorm that hit Molepolole.
The school principal, Ms Boikanyo Chalashika highlighted the fact that, despite critical water shortage being experienced, the institution continued to host national activities as “we did not want challenges to frustrate our objectives of optimal utilisation of the facility,” she noted.
Ms Chalashika challenged Molepolole IHS staff not to be discouraged by challenges the institution is experiencing, but to strive hard to ensure that it becomes an icon of academic excellence. Ends
