Palapye land servicing nears completion

07 Mar 2016

The land servicing project at Extension 11 in Palapye is nearing completion, says the Department of Technical Services project officer, Mr Frans Bale.

Mr Bale informed stakeholders during a meeting in Palapye last week that the project, which started in 2013, was at 91 per cent completion and was expected to be complete in April.

He said the project suffered a setback in 2014 as a result of heavy rains as well as insufficient resources for the main contractor and poor performance by one of the sub contractors.

He also stated that the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the borrow pit was received six months after the project commenced.

The project entails the construction of permanent office block, 69.8km of roads, storm water drainage, 55km of water reticulation, 57km of sewer reticulation and four lift pump stations, 57km of telecommunications ducts and offsite works.

Roads construction is at 86 per cent against 96 per cent, water reticulation and BTC ducts are at 94 and 85 per cent respectively. Sewer reticulation is on target at 96 per cent.

Upon completion of the project, the land board will allocate about 3 159 plots in addition to the 462 plots that were allocated prior to the commencement of the project.

Mr Bale further said the contractor intervened by protecting works by filling deep trenches quicker and engaged a third sub contractor for roads.

Furthermore, he said the project has been extended by six months to undertake additional work which includes among others ugrading a track on the eastern side of Extension 10 as an access road linking the rest of Palapye from Kgolagano College with Extension 11.  ENDS
