07 Mar 2016

Member of Parliament (MP) for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy has implored retired civil servants to create forums and centres where they can address challenges they faced.

Addressing Botswana Civil Services Pensioners Association (BCSPA) Francistown branch after a sponsored walk, Mr Billy said all retired civil servants have a wealth of experience and knowledge that can be used to develop the constituency.

He said being retired does not mean that they are tired but can continue to contribute to the economy of the country.

MP Billy further urged them to come up with ideas that can assist the current nurses, teachers and other field of work to improve situations.

He said retired nurses can assist in home-based care and also improve conditions in clinics, noting that with the knowledge of agriculture, pensioners can be used to change the greater Francistown into horticulture businesses.

MP Billy encouraged the retired civil servants to take Thapama Interchange Road as an advantage to attract tourists as it is the shortcut to Kazungula Bridge.

Being the chief walker during the sponsored walk, he pledged a beast and encouraged members to make raffle tickets to raise funds and also urged them to arrange for pensioners dinner activity to meet their target.

Mr Billy also encouraged pensioners to mentor the youth, adding that young people do live an instant life, however they need parental support.

BCSPA committee chairperson, Mr Joel Mpetsane said the sponsored walk was held in preparation for the upcoming of annul pensioners celebration, to be held in Francistown on August 30-31, this year.

He said the walk aimed to bring wellness to members and put laughter on their faces, noting that they intend to raise P100 000 and urged his colleague to work hard and make the events a success.

Furthermore, he mentioned that celebrations held in Palapye last year were huge and remarkable; however he implored members to show that indeed they are retired but not tired. Ends
