Parental care key

03 Mar 2016

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has urged parents to take responsibility for their children.

President Khama said this during  a kgotla meeting in Ncojane on Thursday March 3.

Responding to one parent who complained about her abducted 18-year-old girl, President Khama said parents need to take control of how they raise their children and instill discipline on them.

He said although government policy defines an 18-year-old as an adult, parents should instill discipline and order among children as some 18-year-olds still lived with their  parents.

President Khama added that he was concerned that children were given too much freedom and power.

He said it has resulted in some of them being reckless and disobedient towards their parents.

He urged parents and the traditional leadership to take control of children and raise them to be responsible citizens.

Ghanzi district commissioner, Mr Loeto Porati confirmed that his office has a case of alleged abduction.

He added that they would  be in contact with the parents to resolve the matter. Ends
