Hukuntsi Sub-council chairperson, Ms Goratwamang Tlhage, has appreciated the roll out of the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) in the sub-district.
Addressing councillors during the sub-council meeting in Hukuntsi recently, Mrs Tlhage said the sub-district was xpecting 23 health staff houses to be built through ESP across all villages in Kgalagadi North.
She said there would also be construction of staff houses for Lehututu and Lehutshelo Junior Secondary Schools as well as rehabilitation of Matsha College sewage ponds.
She explained that construction of revenue offices and six staff houses in Hukuntsi would also be implemented under this programme at an estimated cost of P51 million.
She also expressed gratitude towards the reconstruction of Macheng access roads mainly Lokgwabe, Tshane and Lehututu roads.
Furthermore, Ms Tlhage indicated that Botswana Institute for Technology and Innovation (BITRI) had presented a proposal to form a partnership with the Lehututu Poverty Alleviation project.
The research institute, she said intends to bring in a new technology to the project in its efforts to produce quality and durable bricks using Kgalagadi sand. The partnership between Lehututu brick moulding projects and BITRI, she said is expected not only to create employment for the locals but will also enhance the quality of bricks produced.
“The Lehututu brick moulding project comes at an ideal time when the sub district is expecting a major infrastructure face lift through the ESP,” she said.
Meanwhile Ms Tlhage stated that the Kgalagadi landboard Management has decided to build three staff houses in Hukuntsi..
She further explained that the project has failed to be executed due to various factors including lack of capacity at the land board and Botswana Housing Corporation has advised that the money is not enough since it was requested to assist, therefore Kgalagadi landlord is still awaiting advice from the ministry about the matter.
In addition, she urged councillors to be the eyes of their communities and assist the Environmental Health Division in combating the issue of some shop which are still selling food that is not healthy for human consumption.
“Let us be mindful that consumers have the right to render complaints where there right is infringed,” she said. Ends
