No loss of income due to conversion

03 Mar 2016

The Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele says he is not aware of any loss of income suffered by former industrial class employees when they converted to permanent and pensionable terms of employment.

Answering a question in Parliament on Wednesday, Mr Makgalemele said the basic salary for former Industrial Class Employees was not affected by the conversion, and their monthly salary was fixed at 22 days per month.

Mr Makgalemele said it was worth noting that their conditions off service were actually enhanced by the fact that they became eligible for the 15 per cent pension contribution by the employer. He highlighted that former industrial class employees are not owed any payments by the government and as a result, there was no basis for the call to back date their payments.

The Member of Parliament for Francistown West, Mr Ignatius Moswaane had asked the minister if he was aware that during the process of converting industrial class employees to permanent and pensionable they lost three per cent of their income. He also wanted to know if he would backdate their payments to suit their hours of employment which were adjusted. Ends
