Companies donate to Presidential Charity Trust

02 Mar 2016

The World Group of Companies, Cinderford Botswana, Impact Advertising as well as Marketing and Executive Catering have donated; 1 000 blankets, 50 footballs, 28 solar lights and 51 bibles to the Presidential Charity Trust.

When receiving the donation, Senior Private Secretary to the President, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa, said Office of the President appreciated donations from individuals, the business sector and the community at large, more especially those targeting vulnerable people.

Brigadier Tlhalerwa said it was commendable to see companies and individuals continuously coming forth to donate to the trust in response to President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama’s call to every Motswana to assist the needy.

The Presidential Charity Trust, he said, was set up in 2008 to create and promote awareness in order to assist in reaching out to vulnerable people. Since its inception, he said, the trust had assisted about 150 beneficiaries.

Through this trust, Brigadier Tlhalerwa said over 10 000 chairs and over 10 000 blankets had already been donated to the needy.

Additionally, he said the contribution of various sport equipment, such as footballs and football kits had also benefitted over 70 teams, resulting in each team having two kits.

Some critics, Brigadier Tlhalerwa said, saw a gesture of donating a blanket as a silly token.

However, he said “it is not only about warmth, but it is also about health.”

He said blankets provided warmth and comfort to those in need during winter.

“As winter sometimes can be brutal and a cover like a blanket makes a difference.”

For that reason, he expressed gratitude that the donations were critical because they would go a long way in making a difference in the beneficiaries’ lives.

Cinderford Botswana director, Mr Shamus Haji-Loucas, said his company found it necessary to play a role in contributing towards helping the needy by donating to the Presidential Charity Trust as a response to President Khama’s call to the private sector to assist the needy.

He also encouraged other companies to donate. Ends
