Palapye councillors appreciate mine gesture

02 Mar 2016

Palapye Administrative Authority councillors have toured Morupule Coal Mine to familiarise themselves with the operations and status of the mine.

Speaking during the tour, Morupule Coal Mine human resource manager, Mr Tom Mongale said the mine was committed to remain the pride of the Palapye community and the country by conducting their operations in a sustainable manner and in liaison with the community within which they operate.

He gave councillors an overview of the mine expansion plan and how it has affected adjacent farmers. He said the mine has been in talks with the locals to relinquish their ploughing land to pave way for the expansion.

The synergies gained from the continued dialogue and consultation has seen the mine starting to compensate those whose land was affected by the mine expansion.
He also added that the mine values communal relations.

“It is imperative that we communicate with all stakeholders about our operational aspirations and how they will affect our community,” Mr Mongale said.

The councillors were reminded of their importance as stakeholders as they help relay pertinent issues to their electorates.

For their part, the councillors commended the mine leadership for seeing it fit to include them in matters affecting the local community.

They also commended the mine for giving their business a human face and agreeing to the wishes of local communities. Ends
