Golf union catches them young

Botswana Golf Union (BGU) has donated a snag equipment worth P15 000 to Phakalane Estate and Gold Resort for junior development programme.
The state of the art equipment was handed over by BGU president, Simon Ramphetu to Phakalane Golf manager, Jonathan Warburton during the the Gaborone Open golf day in Phakalane over the weekend.
BGU secretary general, Mpho Kelosiwang said the union was concerned about the development of golf at grassroots level adding that good golfers were tamed at a tender age.
Kelosiwang said BGU was also concerned with the use of older equipment used saying it was heavy and unsafe for juniors and in the process hinder their ability to become better golfers hence the donation of snag equipment.
Meanwhile, the overall winner of the Gaborone Open was Hamadzangu Kamunga, a Zimbabwean national based in Botswana who won the tournament for the second consecutive years after snatching it last year.
Kamunga who inspired his fellow competitors by giving his all and never gave up throughout the game from the first hole to the last went home a happier man with goods worth over P2 000.
Second on the spot was also a Zimbabwean Rodney Butau, who play for Gaborone Golf Club (GGC) who confirmed his growing reputation as one of the finest amateur players in the country while Kealeboga Makoko came third.
About 102 golfers from Botswana, South Africa and Swaziland took part in the annual tournament. Swaziland brought 20 golfers, South Africa four while the rest were Batswana. ENDS
