Village to interconnect with wellfield

02 Mar 2016

The Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources plans to interconnect Mahotshwane to the Sekoma wellfield once funds are available. Minister Kitso Mokaila said the reliability of water supply to Mahotshwane has been severely affected by the collapse of borehole BH5979 and the redundancy of the treatment plant which used to supply the village in early 2014.

“As such, the water demand in the village is not met to the extent that currently the village is bowsed from boreholes which also supply Sekoma, Keng and Khonkhwa,” said Mr Mokaila. He said the supply for Mahotshwane was 30m3 against the demand of 103m3. The minister said the water supplied to Mahotshwane complies with the Botswana Bureau of Standards national drinking water specification BOS 32: 2009.

He said the current cost of supplying water to Mahotshwane through bowsing was at least P103 000 per month. The MP for Jwaneng-Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Nthaile had asked the minister if he was aware that residents of Mahotshwane were continuously without drinking water and to state the full extent and impact of the water situation at the village as well as what action he was taking to arrest the situation. He also wanted to know why Mahotshwane does not have a reliable and safe water supply network and the cost of supplying safe drinking water to the village. Ends
