Capacity constraints delay bonds registration
01 Mar 2016
The Deeds Registry office has experienced some delays in the registration of bonds from February 11 to 26. This was said by the Minister of Infrastructure, Science and Technology, Mr Nonofo Molefhi on Monday, when responding to a question in Parliament on behalf of lands and housing minister, Mr Prince Maele.
The primary cause of delays, Mr Molefhi said, was the large number of deeds received that required registration as well as capacity constraints arising from commitment of staff to other emerging assignments and duties.
Delays in the registration of bonds, the minister said, had adverse effects on businesses and individuals who required such service. The backlog, he said, had however been significantly reduced, as the Ministry of Lands and Housing engaged staff over the weekend of February 26 and 27.
“The remaining transactions will be registered today to clear the backlog,” he added.
Jwaneng-Mabutsane MP, Mr Shawn Nthaile had wanted to know if the Minister of Lands and Housing was aware of protracted delays in the registration of bonds at the Registrar of Deeds office.
He also wanted the minister to state the cause of the delay, actions in place to speed up the process, the impact the delay would have on business and individual as well as when the problem would be resolved. Ends
