01 Mar 2016

Residents of Lobutse receive health services through mobile services, which are conducted on monthly basis.

Speaking in Parliament this week, Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele, said basic primary health services provided to the residents included antenatal care, sexual reproductive health services, child welfare services, growth monitoring and consultation for minor ailments.

He said the population of Lobutse was estimated at around 142 people and as such, the services provided were in line with the public health standards.

Lobutse was serviced by Tsonyane Health Post and Sese clinic, which are 10 and 38km away respectively, while the nearest hospital to Lobutse was Jwaneng Mine Hospital, which is 53km away.

Dr Madigele said in the spirit of Alma ata Declaration on primary health care, Lobutse had adequate access to essential health services close to their community and referral facilities are within easy reach.

Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked the health minister to state the current level of the ministry’s effort to provide health services to the residents of Lobutse in view of Botswana’s commitment to health for all.

The minister had to also state the distance of Lobutse to the nearest clinic and a hospital facility. Ends
