29 Feb 2016

The deputy speaker of the National Assembly Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi says the church has a special role in uniting the community and ensuring the existence of peace and tranquility in any given nation.

Officiating at the opening the Episcopal Apostolic Church in Zion, Gaborone South Branch, in Old Naledi on Saturday, Mr Molatlhegi said the church should not abdicate its role of preaching the good news to the society as it is a neutral role player in any environment.

He said through the leadership of the church, the society is able to maintain serenity and a culture of tolerance among itself.

Above all, he said the political leadership of the country is also guided by the principles of the church, noting that it is the reason Botswana continues to prosper and forge forward.

Mr Molatlhegi, who is also Member of Parliament for Gaborone South, said it was therefore imperative that the church continue recruiting more members into its fold so that it can achieve its mission of uniting the community and safeguarding public morality.

Mr Molatlhegi said Botswana continues to shine and prosper because its political leadership is guided by the grace of God.

He further said Botswana continues to be ranked as one of the least corrupt countries in the world because the political leadership is committed to zero tolerance to corruption. He however said people nowadays  are critical of churches because some of them are preaching or going against the word of God.

Mr Molatlhegi however saluted Episcopal Apostolic Church in Zion for having contributed some money, without external assistance, to build its premises.

Meanwhile, the branch pastor Seitheko Moyanti said the church started in 1971 but only managed to build its structure this year through member’s contribution. He however said there should be critical investigations as to why spiritual churches countrywide are not growing or are misusing its funds.

In addition pastor Moyanti  said they intend to build a bigger church structure in the next three years. Ends
