Anti-crime clubs in schools necessity

29 Feb 2016

Letlhakane police chief Superintendent Michael Maphephu has advised students and teachers to form anti- crime clubs in order to fight crime from the grassroots.

Supt Maphephu was speaking during a crime prevention public awareness debate organised by Letlhakane police recently.

Supt Maphephu said formation of anti- crime clubs in schools is necessary because it is where children spend most of their time and that anti crime messages will be passed onto others by students which makes it easier to be absorbed by their peers.

He said that as members of the police, they will work in concert with these clubs and that his office will always be open to assist them whenever the need arise.

Another speaker at the event, Boteti District AIDS coordinator, Mr Ketlaantshang Monyadiwa, spoke against parents who neglect their children saying that it makes it easier for the children to indulge in criminal activities.

Mr Monyadiwa told the attendants that a smart parent knows when to attend, give love and support to his children.

He advised parents to work hard to teach their children acceptable behavior in the society. Mr Monyadiwa further told the parents to protect their children from the social media which comes with both the good and bad consequences.

According to him, through the Internet under age children are exposed to pornographic material and that these children go to the extent of producing pornographic videos using the same smart phones bought to them by their parents.

The event was held under the theme, Being a smart parent; being responsible for my child’s behavior. Ends
