25 Feb 2016

Tonota Sub-council chairperson, Councillor Anderson Moalosi has said the uptake of programmes in the sub district is doing “fairly well.”

Speaking at a full sub-council meeting, Cllr Moalosi mentioned that the Anti-Retroviral (ARV) programme is doing well in the sub-district.

He said currently a total of 6 845 clients are enrolled in the programme, noting that there are 158 children who are currently enrolled on the treatment comprising of 81 females and 77 males.

Cllr Moalosi said men are still reluctant to go for the test, and he encouraged councillors to encourage more men to go and test early so that they could be assisted accordingly to avoid deaths.

Furthermore, he said the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) programme is also doing well, however some women still fall pregnant with known HIV positive status without consulting  health workers.

Once more, Mr Moalosi urged councillors to encourage women in kgotla meetings to register early for Ante Natal Care and also to follow precautions given to them by doctors.

He however expressed  concern about teenage pregnancy in his sub district, adding that they have registered a total of 43 cases in the third quarter, same as that of the previous quarter.

Furthermore, he said they still have cases of defilement and therefore urged councillors to work together with teachers and parents to address the problem.

He stated that the sub-district was faced with shortage of drugs in most facilities.

Cllr Moalosi said however the Ministry of Health has introduced emergency drugs fund, which was used to address the shortage and will continue to procure these drugs from chemists. Ends
