Mayor urges cllrs to help monitor projects

The mayor of Selebi Phikwe, Mr Amogelang Mojuta, has called on councillors to assist in monitoring the implementation of development projects in the mining town. 

Mr Mojuta made this call during a Selebi Phikwe Town Council full council meeting. 

He said projects under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) included the implementation of primary school backlog eradication projects. 

He said the projects included 12 teachers houses, one double-storey classroom, one block of toilets and eight teachers houses at Boswelakgomo Primary School as well as one double-storey classroom and two blocks of toilets at Lapologang Primary School.

He said the projects woud play a major role in the creation of employment and help alleviate poverty. Trough ESP he said, the education system would be improved since the move will ease shortage of teachers' accommodation. 

He said improving teachers condition of service will have a positive impact on service delivery in educating children.

He went on to explain that other primary education backlog eradication projects not under ESP but implemented by the council had been budgeted for at the tune of over P12 million. 

He said the projects also included construction of teacher's houses at over P10 million and construction of two toilet blocks each comprising of eight cubicles for more than P1.2 million at Segomotso Primary School.

“These two projects have so far created 82 jobs for locals,” he said. Mr Mojuta also noted that the project for the construction of Landfill Liner Cell.No.3 commenced on December 2, 2015 and is expected to be complete by March this year. 

He said the project was awarded at the tune of more than P2.2 million and is 70 per cent complete. Ends
