25 Feb 2016

The Okavango Sub district council chairperson has decried what he called lukewarm performance by the sub district in service delivery.

Speaking at the opening of the council meeting on Tuesday, Mr Mbahahauka Kambimba said as the district council their work to improve the lives of people is “unacceptable and embarrassing.”

He said reports have shown that they provide social services at only 55 per cent which he described as insufficient.

The chairperson said in order to avoid embarrassments, there is need to look at their faults and reengineer themselves for better performance.

He said poor performance is caused by lack of oversight and that it is important for committee chairpersons to physically monitor work so as to produce better results.

“We need to sit in committees, deliberate, make resolutions and further make sure that what we talk about and agreed on is being carried out,” he said.

On another point, Mr Kambimba said poor work ethics is rampant among employees. He therefore encouraged heads of Departments and managers to monitor and plan ahead of time.

He also pointed out that poor relationships and citizen support is also a contributing factor.

Mr Kambimba said areas that need improvement include schools where he said about eight settlements needed schools badly.

He further said internal roads is a concern indicating that they need to make sure that they generate their own income.

He said it is important for the councillors and public officers to take responsibility and work hard.

He also said that it is up to them as the leadership of the district to develop it and do away with the perception that their district was poverty stricken. Ends
