Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele will attend a ministerial conference on immunization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

A press release from the Ministry of Health says the meeting will focus on how to increase action towards attaining the goals and target of the global vaccine action plan (GVP).

 It says the plan was endorsed by 194 member states of the world health assembly in May 2012. 

The release states that its framework is to prevent millions of deaths by 2020 through more equitable access to existing vaccines for people in all communities including other age groups other than infants.

It explains that Botswana has made significant advances in introducing new vaccines and expanding the reach of immunisation programmes. It further says the meetings are important as decisions are made that require implementation by member states including Botswana. 

The minister is expected back home on February 26. Ends
