Residents can utilise programme
23 Feb 2016
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, says he is not aware that residents of Sebele Farms have been denied access to the Poverty Eradication Programme.
The assistant minister noted that the Sebele Farms area gets services from Gaborone City Council (GCC) extension offices based at the Tsholofelo Service Centre. He said records indicate that five individuals residing at Sebele Farms requested to be considered for the programme and were duly assessed and found not to meet the eligible criteria.
He said to improve accessibility of services, GCC has established the Tsholofelo Service Centre and appointed a senior officer to coordinate and supervise the service center to enhance service delivery.
The Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had wanted to know if the minister was aware that residents of Sebele Farms were denied access to poverty eradication programmes. Mr Nkaigwa also wanted the minister to state what was being done to help the residents to access the programmes. Ends
