CDC management learns ESP
23 Feb 2016
Central District Council (CDC) top management has been orientated on the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Speaking at a two-day orientation workshop in Palapye recently, CDC secretary, Mr Gaolathe Dipholo, said the orientation would enable public servants to embrace the programme and disseminate the correct information to the public.
Mr Dipholo said ESP was a direct response to challenges facing the country’s declining economic growth. In the context of current global economic trends, characterised by slower growth and greater uncertainty, government saw the need to take bold and proactive measures to stimulate the economy.
He said ESP was a robust action plan aimed at stimulating economic growth, acceleration of job creation and to promote economic diversification.
This would be carried out over the next three yeare by devoting additional resources towards accelerated investment in the provision of public infrastructure, including buildings and roads.
It will also target investment in agriculture and tourism development, manufacturing and services, through the establishment of special Economic Zones and Economic Diversification Drive (EDD) and Re-inventing government.
Mr Dipholo said it was expected to be embraced by all Batswana as a national project, while government would be driver of its core to empower the private and parastatal sector, as well as other non-governmental stakeholders to grasp the emerging opportunities that will lead to accelerated job creation and economic diversification.
He said implementation of ESP would evolve active outreach efforts to engage key non-governmental stakeholders.
He urged CDC management to remain focused, determined and work as a solid team with intention of producing results.
He said the work of the sub districts was to facilitate progress of service delivery and were expected to pull up their socks as this year is a busy one.
He also said they should move from commitments to results and learn from their past failures. Ends
