Resource centres assist pupils

21 Feb 2016

Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Moiseraela Goya says his ministry is aware that some parents do not support their children’s education.

Mr Goya noted that many parents were challenged to find time to support their children’s school work because of various commitments. “My ministry has over a thousand facilities countrywide which can serve to assist communities during holidays and after school as social and education resource centres.

"If parents are committed this can be arranged through the Parent Teacher Associations in conjunction with the schools,” Mr Goya said.

Kanye South MP, Mr Abram Kesupile had asked whether the minister was aware that parents were unable to help support their children with school work in most rural areas.

Mr Kesupile said parents were often pre-occupied with fighting life difficulties such as hunger, poverty, unemployment and lack of water.

He wanted to know whether the ministry would be able to introduce social and education resource centres targeting primary school going children to give them support. Ends
