Officers in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development have appealed to Minister Slumber Tsogwane to avail departments with more vehicles to help improve service delivery.

When presenting grievances and complaints during a staff meeting addressed by the minister in Mochudi recently, employees cited lack of transport as one of the major challenges affecting their mandate of serving the nation.

Ms Tuduetso Baipidi from Tribal Administration advised that during allocation of vehicles, the terrain of the place as well as the number of passengers a vehicle could carry should be taken into consideration. She said they were often given single cabs which provides for one passenger.

She also said their scheme of service needs to be revised, as their duties and responsibilities were not clear. Ms Baipidi also highlighted shortage of computers and weak Internet connections which affected their work.

From the office of the district commissioner, Ms Mpho Modiega said the decentralisation of services was not going according to plan as some departments were struggling with resources. She said it was affecting the intended purpose of providing services efficiently to people.

Ms Modiega also said the lack of progression in their department has resulted in a demoralised work force and the loss of skilled manpower to other ministries.

In his response, the director of Tribal Administration, Mr Tumelo Seboko said they were still working on the scheme of service. He also said the job effectiveness description has been done and given to the Directorate of Public Service Management (DPSM).

Mr Seboko said tribal administration has been given priority in terms of office furniture, adding that money to buy furniture has been apportioned. He also noted that shortage of computers affected most offices. However, he said the ministry intends to buy more computers this year. Ends
