Be grateful - Batshu
18 Feb 2016
Member of Parliament for Nkange, Mr Edwin Batshu, has implored Tutume residents to be grateful for what the country achieved since independence.
Speaking at a roving torch ceremony in Tutume on Wednesday, Mr Batshu said it was imperative for Batswana to look back and appreciate the country’s achievements.
He said now was the time for Batswana to celebrate because when compared to other countries, Botswana did most of its developments from scratch, unlike many who benefitted from colonisers.
Mr Batshu, also the Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, appealed to Batswana to continue with the spirit of Botho, which he said helped the country reach the status it was in.
He also noted that it was important for Batswana to see this kind of recognition as a challenge and an encouragement to continue in that manner.
Furthermore, he noted that since this is the year for celebrating the 50-year anniversary, it should also mark the beginning of another episode in the lives of Batswana.
Minister Batshu nonetheless noted that there were needs and wants, which Batswana would want done at a blink of an eye, but he said it was not an easy thing to do and as such it required joint efforts from all concerned parties, hence government calling for partnerships for developments to happen.
One of the elders in the village, Mr Itireleng Shubo said this was a historic moment, which needed to be recorded and saved for the future generations.
He said Botswana had come a long way having started from nothing and today the country was counted among countries that had fastest growing economies under democratic leadership. Ends
