Ministry engages youth
16 Feb 2016
Lobatse youth have been implored to form clubs to promote open communication among themselves and find ways of encouraging each other to take charge of their lives.
Addressing Lobatse youth clubs during a capacity building workshop organised by the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture, and the theme: Committed to empower youth, peer educator, Mr Percy Sedio encouraged the youth to actively participate in creating community change.
He said such clubs would offer young people a credible way to change public perception about young people. Mr Sedio said that way the community would allow them the chance to develop their leadership skills that would make them better future leaders.
He further encouraged them to follow the right procedures when registering clubs and to abide by the constitution to guide them in their day to day operations.
Another peer educator, Mr Tshepiso Mogotsi encouraged the youth to develop leadership and role modelling skills that would help them gain skills that would impact on their lives and those of other individuals, organisations and communities.
He said leaders should have effective skills to remain attentive and strategic in their clubs.
“They must be visionary leaders who can bring life and stability to their clubs during difficult times,” he added.
Mr Mogotsi encouraged the youth to think outside the box in order to bring change to their clubs.
Meanwhile, a medical practitioner from Motswedi Clinic, Mr Mmoloki Molosiwa encouraged the youth to desist from engaging in undesirable behaviours, and to do away with substance abuse. Ends
