Churches play pivotal role in society

The mayor of Selebi Phikwe, Mr Amogelang Mojuta says churches play a pivotal role in society through culture development, building the country’s economy and giving hope for the future.
Speaking at the official opening of Bible Life Ministries ‘Word of Destiny Conference’ on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe East, Mr Nonofo Molefhi, he said a church also gives government advice on social issues concerning society.
“I appreciate the great role that the church is playing in Selebi Phikwe and Botswana as a whole. The church has proved itself in the past and plays an integral part of our society with major contribution in the development of our culture and character of our people,” he said. He said churches help in combating HIV/AIDS, social ills such as alcohol and drug abuse and urged them to continue caring for the infected and affected.
“We as believers hope that as we humble ourselves and pray and seek the face of God, we shall be healed. Let me emphasise that this includes turning away from social ills and all behaviour that undermines our commitment to a healthy and prosperous nation,” he said.
He commended Bible Life Ministries for holding the conference, which was held under the theme: ‘Building generational blessing’ saying it will empower locals, instill knowledge and survival skills. Ends
