Swaneng Hill staff extend helping hand

Swaneng Hill School staff have extended a helping hand to a less privileged member of the community, Mr Lekgobo Sosome.
Speaking during the groundbreaking of the construction of a house on Friday, Assistant Minister of Agriculture, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse hailed the gesture, saying it demonstrates compassion by Swaneng Hill School staff.
Mr Autlwetse, who is also a Member of Parliament for Serowe North, said although the status of Mr Sosome’s family would not be at par with other community members, at least the family would have a roof over their heads, emphasising that shelter was a basic need to a human being.
He appreciated that the school employees were driven by love and compassion. He pledged an additional P3 000 on top of the P1 000 that his family donated towards the construction of the house.
For her part, the school head, Ms Gabalape Autlwetse told the gathering that after some teachers paid a visit to one student, who happens to be a Sosome family member, they took the decision to help the family because it was poor.
She said they started by donating food to the family, and formed a committee that came up with some ideas of raising funds for the construction of the house such as civic days, sponsored walks and litter picking campaigns.
She said although they do not have enough money, they believe that with determination they would be able to complete the house. BOPA
