Sewage system delay cost Molepolole

15 Feb 2016

Delay of the construction of Molepolole sewage system has prevented   developments from taking place in the village.

Speaking during a kgotla meeting in Matlhalerwa ward in Molepolole, Member of Parliament for Molepolole North, Mr Mahommed Khan, said some entrepreneurs were not able to establish industries in Molepolole due to the unavailability of the sewage system.

He said the industries could help create employment for the residents.

Furthermore, Mr Khan said Botswana Housing Corporation had since been allocated a plot in Molepolole, but they had not yet started building because they were waiting for the sewage system to be constructed.

He said the corporation`s houses could curb the shortage of public servants accommodation.nMeanwhile, the MP complained that residents did not attend meetings at the main kgotla where they could voice their concerns and needs on developments.

“Go forward and let your voices be heard, there can be no developments without demand,” Mr Khan said.

Chairperson of the village development committee in the area, Ms  Mathata Molefi  said VDC tenants defaulted on their rentals.

Ms Molefi said without money obtained from rentals, they could not carry out VDC projects since they relied on that money.

One of the residents,  Mr Mokonopi pleaded that the old boreholes be equipped to supply them with water.

Another resident Ms Diketso Keteng complained about a trench next to Masuaditshwene burial site, saying during rains it was dangerous to pupils and that it might as well reach out to graves and float the buried.

Ms Keteng also wanted to know how far the allocation of the new burial site was since the current one wasalready filled-up.

Residents also raised a complainant on why other departments did not attend kgotla meetings in order to answer queries and concerns.

In response, MP Khan said next week they will visit the graveyard site with the council staff  to see and plan on how they could attend to the situation.

However, he said it had been agreed that a piece of land along Lephepe road next to Kweneng International School be used as the new graveyard.

Concerning failure to pay rent by VDC tenants, MP Khan said he would help the committee to make a written contract, which would be used to bind a tenant.

He also said they would talk with the council leaders about the re-equipping of old boreholes, adding that another reason for their disconnection was that the underground water could be polluted by pit latrines.

Regarding failure to attend kgotla meetings by other government departments, Mr Khan said he would approach the district commissioner about the issue.

Councillor for Boribamo East, Mr Allan Jacobs announced to the residents that the Ipelegeng budget will be reduced by 10 per cent, hence the workers will not undertake other projects other than cutting grass and trees.
