Motokwe Primary School pupils recently received physical education attire worth P13 000 from Shegotja Molelo.
Speaking at the handing over event, the president of the society, Ms Goleba Mokwena said they had opened a trust account in which they deposited proceeds from contributions from good samaritans.
“Our objective is that each year we choose three branches that we will assist from the funds and this year Motokwe branch was chosen as one of the three branches to be assisted,” she said.
She said initially the kit was supposed to be handed over in December, but the exercise was postponed because schools were closed.
She said the donation was in line with the Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation. The society also contributed P10 000 towards the students of Matsha tragedy.
Ms Mokwena said the proceeds were contributions done by their various branches across the country.
For his part, the area Member of Parliament, Mr Ngaka Ngaka appreciated the efforts of the society on their assistance to the citizenry. He also advised them to keep solid the unity and peace that prevailed among them.
Mr Ngaka also said the area leadership was available to assist them whenever there was need, and therefore they should not fear to approach them.
He also advocated for public assistance to the society as they were doing a good job.
The Letlhakeng Sub-district council chairman, Councillor Tlotlo Batlhophi also appreciated the gesture, saying the society had assisted the council in a way as it is overwhelmed by requirement to assist schools and needy people.
“In this way I can assure you that the council will always support you whenever you need its assistance as you share a similar vision with it,” he said.
Councillor Batlhophi also cautioned members to guard against greed as this had the potential to break them.
He also applauded them for their benevolence as they had been making a number of donations in the area, and that it was a good thing that the society had spread to as far as Serowe from humble beginnings in Letlhakeng.
The society also donated P2 000 and some clothing to a resident of Motokwe whose house burnt down last year. Ends
