Projects employ eight on permanent basis

14 Feb 2016

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, says there are three community economic empowerment projects in Grootlagte, Qabo and Kuke valued at P1.5 million

Answering a question in Parliament on Thursday, Ms Tshireletso said these projects had employed eight permanent employees.

However, during the construction of the farm and carpentry workshop, there were 50 temporary jobs that were created.
In addition to these jobs, she said, some employment had been created indirectly through the provision of livestock to 108 beneficiaries from Grootlagte and Qabo, valued at P860 000.

The assistant minister said a total of 43 projects are spread across the four settlements of Grootlagte, Kuke, D’kar and Qabo funded under Poverty Eradication Programme valued at P865 504

Furthermore, Ms Tshireletso said during the financial years 2013 to 2015/2016, a total of 27 houses under the Remote Area Development Programme have been constructed at a value of P3 240 000 for households in these settlements and the housing projects created short term employment opportunities for over 100 people.

As regards case of criss-crossing, Ms Tshireletso said, of those employed on these projects, nine farm workers are employed for three months on rotational basis, adding that since the farms are community projects, they share beneficiaries with Ipelegeng rotationally.

However, carpentry employees are permanent and are not part of the Ipelegeng pool of beneficiaries.

MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the assistant minister the number of projects that were rolled out through the RADP in the settlements of Qabo, Grootlagte, D’kar and Kuke and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve in the Ghanzi Constituency as at July 2015.

MP Salakae also wanted to know the total value by project and settlement, number of jobs that have been created by each project and the number of those employed on these projects who criss-cross for work at the Ipelegeng programme.  Ends
