President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama says government will build 4481 houses to ease off dire accommodation shortages for public servants under the Economic Stimulation Programme (ESP).

When responding to complaints from Tshimoyapula kgosi who complained about acute shortage of accommodation for public servants, President Khama said in addition to the 540 houses to be built by the Ministry of Lands and Housing, government will further build a combined 4 481 houses under the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Ministry of Education and Skills Development to relief accommodation shortage countrywide.  

President Khama was adding onto what Minister of Lands and Housing Mr Prince Maele  had informed residents of Tshimoyapula about, that his ministry was on course to building 540 houses for public servants nationwide.
Mr Maele explained that over 30 000 public servants needed acocmmodation.

He said as part of amelioration to the daunting accommodation problem his ministry has since appealed to individual Batswana and village development committees to build quality houses that could be rented for public servants.
On other related issues, minister Maele said his ministry intends to build 1500 Self Help Housing Agency (SHHA) houses countrywide under ESP. He however, conceded that his ministry was faced with long lists of applicants. To that, minister

Maele informed residents that they have since established a housing fund last year where SHHA revolving fund will be channeled to and councils have complied.  
The plan according to Mr Maele was that each constituency gets 17 houses.

On other developmental issues, President Khama has informed attendants at the meeting that just like in 2015/16 financial year, government has planned to purchase another batch of 100 ambulances in 2016/17 financial year. He promised the people of Tshimoyapula that before end of March this year they will be accorded an ambulance. Ends
