Residents to benefit from photographic tourism
11 Feb 2016
Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele says government has plans to assist the residents of Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) benefit from photographic tourism.
He told Parliament that some of the activities have already begun such as mobilisation of residents to create awareness and orientate them on tourism and related activities as well as establishment of a Joint Community Trust of which accrued benefits shall be shared amongst all the residents of the reserve.
Answering a parliamentary question on behalf of Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Maele said the trust will generate employment opportunities to improve the livelihoods of the residents as well as to conserve the environment.
He said potential community campsites and lodge sites have also been identified in consultation with the community.
Minister Maele said plans for the tourism infrastructure have not yet been completed and therefore it is not possible at this stage to determine the actual budget that will be required for the development.
MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister if there are plans to assist people of CKGR to benefit from photographic tourism.
He also wanted to know if there is a budget for that and how much it will cost. Ends
