The newly appointed Kgalagadi district commissioner, Mr Rapetse Mathumo, has told heads of departments in the district that he expects them to perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
He said this, on Tuesday, at a meeting where he introduced himself.
Mr Mathumo urged civil servants to work as a team, pointing out that they should know that failure to do so would mean that they will not be able to service their clients accordingly.
“if one department fails, the whole district will be failing,” he said.
He urged them to perform their duties with diligence. Furthermore, Mr Mathumo pointed out that the district as a whole was under developed and the public officers were expected to play a role in development.
“We should do what is required of us by the government and drive government priorities which include among others job creation, poverty eradication and saying no to corruption” he said.
The DC pointed out that officers were expected to drive the Economic Stimulus Programme.
He said when the new project was implemented they should all come together to avoid a situation where projects would be delayed because one department failed to do its part, stressing that they should always strive to ensure quality work was done.
For their part, most of the HoDs pointed out that although they were trying all they could, they were let down by lack of transport. Some also pointed out that they had shortage of staff and that had impacted negatively on service delivery.
The DC advised them to always share resources such as transport and also promised them that he would see what to do concerning the vacant posts, which needed to be filled. Ends
