Former Okavango MP passes on

Former Member of Parliament for Okavango, Mr Bailang Salepito has died at Gumare Primary Hospital on Saturday aged 88 years. Mr Salepito was a Member of Parliament for Okavango between 1979 and 1984. He then became a specially nominated councillor between 1984 and 1989, a Botswana Democratic Party Ngami branch manager, Mr Kabo Kurusa has informed this paper. Mr Kurusa said the late Mr Salepito had worked for Botswana Police Service prior to joining politics.
He then worked for Tawana Land Board under different portfolios from 1989 and became a farmer of repute until his demise.
A family spokesperson, Kgosi Diteko Salepito said the late Mr Salepito started work as a teacher at Tsau Primary School. He then served as a police officer for a long time before he joined politics. Kgosi Salepito said his brother’s death was a great loss to the family and the country as a whole. He said the deceased suffered for a long time with illness.
He said funeral arrangements were at an early stage, but that the funeral would be held in Gumare on a date to be announced. The deceased is survived by a wife and children. Ends
