04 Feb 2016

Government, through the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, has come up with an intervention programme for former Matsha College students who survived a tragic road accident in November last year.

According to a press release from the ministry, the intervention would be between government and De Beers Group of Companies.

The programme is due to the realisation that there is a real opportunity to make meaningful impact in the lives of these students through life skills and vocational skills development.

“The initiative tagged: Kweneng District Skills Development Programme (KDSDP), focuses mainly on healing, rehabilitation, skills development and character building,” says the release.

It says if successfully executed, it will help clients to develop important human qualities such as self-confidence, self-sustenance, independence, creativity, discipline, accountability, resilience, integrity, honesty, diligence, compassion, respect and courage among others.

“They create an understanding among clients to appreciate the importance of being principled citizens,” the release says.

The release states that the programme is structured to run in two phases, with phase one constituting psychological support and soft skills development which will be facilitated by the ministries of health and education as well as local government and rural development.

It further says phase two will focus on vocational skills and development, which will be facilitated by De Beers Group of companies.

The release says the goals of the programme are to strengthen support for effective spiritual, physical and emotional healing and stability following the disaster as well as to empower them with comprehensive life and vocational skills.

It says the programme which commenced January 24 is conducted at Molepolole College of Education and will run for six months.  ENDS
