Jwaneng deputy DC calls for excellence
04 Feb 2016
The Jwaneng deputy district commissioner, Ms Kolobetso Sejakgomo has appealed to Heads of Departments (HODs) in Jwaneng to aim for excellence when executing their duties.
She said this during her inaugural meeting with the HODs after being transferred from the Gaborone City Council recently.
Ms Sejakgomo said the excellent performance should not only be reflected at district level but also at individual departments so that collectively they can continue to build the good image of the district.
“Excellent performance is key to the public service. We should excel in everything we do and this excellent performance should also be reflected at individual departments in how we handle customers and how we respond to grievances,” she said.
Ms Sejakgomo noted that she was optimistic that the teamwork that she had already experienced in Jwaneng would play a role in ensuring best service delivery to customers.
She said that even though she was aware of some of the challenges, there was need to do the best despite the circumstances.
She also emphasised the need for public service employees to unite and help each other since they had the same mandate of delivering quality service to the public.
The deputy district commissioner noted that this year was a busy year for the public service since it was characterised by several activities such as Botswana 50 years independence celebrations, Vision 2016 celebrations, Desert Race as well as the Public Service Day celebrations which will be celebrated at district level prior to the national event.
She said all these required public service employees to work hard so that the activities become successful.
Furthermore, she called on all HODs and public service employees to embrace the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) and ensure its effective implementation. She encouraged them to be well informed on the programme so that they could explain to those seeking help.
She noted that even though there was no formal list on district projects enlisted for the ESP, she was aware that some ministries were already making strides in identifying projects to be undertaken through the programme.
On other issues, Ms Sejakgomo urged HODs to engage their officers to improve the cleanliness of their premises.
She said the building which houses government departments should be kept clean at all times since it reflected on the image of the public service.
The treasury cashier, Mr Raphael Kedumetse said as a flagship program, there was need for intensive education on the ESP. He said this would help public officers to explain it better to the public.
The principal elections officer, Mr Isaac Keogotsitse said he shared the same sentiments with the Deputy district commissioner for Jwaneng district to be an excellent performer.
He, however, noted that some departments continued to encounter some challenges since they were also responsible for servicing other areas outside Jwaneng. ENDS
