Ministry considers relocating DRTS
31 Jan 2016
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says the Department of Road and Transport Services (DRTS) in Mogoditshane is overwhelmed by customers who are in need of transport services.
Responding to a question during the ongoing Ntlo Ya Dikgosi session, Mr Mabeo said apart from the large population of Mogoditshane and the surrounding areas, the congestion was caused by a large number of car dealers based in Mogoditshane, who obviously prefer registering their vehicles there.
Mr Mabeo also stated that the congestion might also be fuelled by the fact that the process of registering new vehicles takes more time than renewal of both drivers’ licences and vehicle licences hence the inevitable delay.
He said to address the problem his ministry was considering re-locating to a bigger space in an endeavour to improve service delivery.
He, however, decried shortage of office accommodation in Mogoditshane, but pointed out that they would continue to search for office accommodation.
Mr Mabeo also encouraged DRTS customers to use post offices for the renewal of vehicle licences to curb long queues at the Mogoditshane transport office.
Kgosi Nametso Kopelo of Molepolole region had asked the minister if he was aware of the congestion at the Mogoditshane transport office, and if so, what plans were in place to address the situation. Ends
