Secure businesses - Kgathi

31 Jan 2016

Business owners have been encouraged to build their premises with security features, which can help protect their goods.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Sebina recently, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi, said some business owners did not want to take responsibility for their properties’ security, but instead placed the burden on the police.

Mr Kgathi said at the last parliament session,  some MPs were of the view that business owners should have main streaming security features, which will also assist the police in protecting their properties.

He further urged them to engage private security companies.

However, the minister noted that some security companies did not abide by labour laws in terms of payment of their employees.

He said many of these companies underpaid their employees and when time came for employees to receive their gratuity, they were dismissed from work.

The minister noted that most of these complaints came to him during telephonic conversations they usually had as ministers with the public. On other issues, Minister Kgathi appealed to social network users to use them for the intended purpose of socialising, instead of turning such medium as a platform to insult other people.

He noted that his ministry had taken a decision to capacitate police officers so that they could be in a better position to deal with cybercrime.

Furthermore, he informed the residents that he was of the view that the country had managed to achieve the peace and harmony as stated in Vision 2016.

The Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Ms Florence Lesetedi, appreciated the ministry for having increased police officers in their village.

She, however, appealed for a police station to be built in their area as it was  central to many places in Nkange and North East constituencies.

In his response, Minister Kgathi said the police station was on the National Development Plan and will be done in the 2018/19 financial year, noting that this coming financial, year they are going to build Maitengwe police station. Ends
