Parakarungu embraces roving torch

27 Jan 2016

Residents of Parakarungu in the Chobe District were in jubilant mood when the roving torch arrived in their village this week.

They expressed happiness that their village was the first in the district to welcome the roving torch, which came from the neighbouring district of North West.

The residents indicated that their village was one of the remotest and being far from other villages and having been given a chance to host the roving torch, made them proud.

One of the residents, Mr Mogomotsi Muzebi said the torch had brought happiness and joy to him and to his family, as he would start the year in a good mood and believe all his resolutions will be achieved.

He indicated that he had long waited for the torch.

“This torch has brought hope and strength to me as an individual and I will work hard to achieve my dream this year. I am happy to be part of this history and I will pass this to the younger generation,” he said.

Mr Muzebi appealed to the youth to take part in the 50th anniversary independence celebrations that will help them improve their moral responsibility and the spirit of volunteerism.

He indicated that people could learn a lot from the torch being the history of their villages as well as the history of the country.

Another resident, Mr Amon Mabuku said the torch united the nation.

In his welcoming remarks, Kgosi Richwell Nkokwena thanked government for having engaged dikgosi in the roving torch’s tours and 50th anniversary independence activities.

He noted that dikgosi played a major role in the independence of the country and that needed to be appreciated.

Kgosi Nkokwena stated that bogosi was an important institution that played an active role in the country’s development and in service provision to the people as they were the ones who dealt directly with the communities on a daily basis.

He also thanked the community for having contributed to the preparations of the roving torch activities. ENDS
